A unique, dark twist on the classic tale of "be careful what you wish for."

 

In present day America, an ancient and powerful entity is carelessly summoned by Melody Grainger - a bitter young artist fed up with humanity and seeking revenge on her enemies.

Melody didn't anticipate the terrifying, emotional encounter she would bring upon herself by calling upon Karilaz the demon until she awakens, surprised to find that her spell worked and the mysterious spirit is lurking in her kitchen.

She soon finds herself confronting painful truths as she faces both her literal and metaphorical demons, and worst of all - herself.

Karl is a dark fantasy short film with horror elements, as well as moments of comic relief. It takes place in a modest apartment in Philadelphia, but the mundane setting is gradually transformed into an otherworldly space by looming shadows, decay and distortion.

It is an exercise in facing one's own inner demons by writer and director Asia Charity Eriksen, who set out to explore difficult sides of herself and humanity as a whole.
